Program (Elementary and Secondary)





Research shows that learning a second or third language has a positive effect on all aspects of a child’s educational development.

ELEMENTARY PROGRAM

 

Who is eligible to attend? All children from junior kindergarten to grade eight who are residents of Ontario are welcome to attend free of charge. An activity fee is applicable to non-Ontario resident students. This program is open to all children regardless of cultural or ethnic background.

 

The program is taught for 2.5 hours each Saturday for 33 Saturdays. The school year runs from September 11, 2010 to June 11, 2011.

REGISTRATION

 

When:  Classes begin September 11, 2010

            All language programs run from 9:30 am – 12:00 pm.

 

Where:  Registration begins September 11 at IL school sites.

 

Fee:  Consumables/Activity Fee of $10 is payable at registration

 

 

SECONDARY (CREDIT) PROGRAM

 

These Grade 9-12 credit courses are for high school students and adults who:

·         graduated from the IL Elementary Program and/or

·         have no prior knowledge of the language, or

·         are native speakers

 

Languages and Locations:

 

Arabic, Bulgarian, Croatian, German, Hungarian, Italian, Korean, Panjabi, Persian, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Turkish:

ST. PIUS X HS, 1481 Fisher Avenue, Ottawa

 

Mandarin (Simplified)

HOLY TRINITY HS, 180 Katimavik Road, Kanata

ST. JOSEPH HS, 3333 Greenbank Road, Barrhaven

 

Classes run Saturdays, September 11, 2010 to June 11, 2011

from 9:00 am-12:30 pm.

 

This program enables students to:

·         prepare for post-secondary studies and careers in the fields of business, trade and communications

·         foster global awareness and understanding

·         enhance student exchange and

·         develop training skills for international/global employment opportunities

 

All courses follow Ministry of Education guidelines and are accepted as credits towards a high school diploma. The courses are for eligible regular day school students, and adults who are Ontario residents.

Current graduation requirements recognize at least one credit in a third language.

REGISTRATION

 

Registration for the 2010-2011 school year is:

 

On site at St. Pius X HS on Wednesday, September 1

from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm

OR

At all sites Saturday, September 11 & Saturday, September 18

from 9:00 am-12:30 pm.

 

REGISTRATION FOR THE SECONDARY (CREDIT) PROGRAM IS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR ONLY

 

Fee:  Consumables/Activity Fee of $10 is payable first day of class. A fee is charged to all non-Ontario residents.
